  • A brief bio:

Habiba Emam is an activist from Alexandria. She is an undergraduate student studying dentistry. From a young age, Habiba fostered a strong academic record throughout all her school years; this helped her to develop a strong foundation for science and knowledge. When she was choosing her major of study, she chose dentistry as a way to leave her mark on people’s lives. Habiba believes in women’s rights, gender equality, and social justice; she is looking forward to establishing an organization to help and support women. Moreover, she believes in the power of youth and how empowering and enabling them can make the world a completely different place. Based on this, she was concerned with participating in programs with the same aim of empowering youth, and this is why she took the step of participating in the Empower 2030 Leaders program. Besides participating in programs, volunteering is an essential part of Habiba’s life. She has a long volunteering record with many contributions to her community, as she is an active member of the SDSP, Sustainable Development Studies Program department at Bibliotheca Alexandria, where she helps on a weekly basis to organize meetings, conferences, events, and presentations that aim to connect the youth and increase awareness about the SDGs. Habiba has a huge concern for the environment and is trying to reduce her carbon footprint. During her high school years, she made many scientific projects related to the SDGs and Egypt’s 2030 Agenda, as she is a STEM school alumna. Habiba has learned a lot from every experience, and she is eager to learn more.

  • What ignited your pursuit for SDGs especially the goals you believe in?

During my high school years, I conducted numerous scientific projects and much research on SDG-related topics. These projects ignited me and made me believe in four main goals: sustainable cities and communities, climate action, clean water and sanitation, and gender equality. My belief and passion for solving these goals came from my practical experience—seeing the effects with my own eyes and how, by solving these goals, the world we live in will be reshaped.

  • Please share your biggest wins as an SDGs advocate

As an SDG advocate, my participation in numerous programs and workshops has led to significant wins. By connecting with like-minded individuals, I have collaborated on initiatives that address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). One of my biggest accomplishments was being nominated as a global finalist in the NASA Space Apps Challenge for my project on climate change. This recognition highlights my dedication to making a positive.

  •  Outside of your SDGs advocacy work, what do you enjoy doing?

Reading books and novels has been a lifelong passion of mine, providing an escape to different worlds and allowing me to explore diverse perspectives and experiences. Within the pages of a book, I have encountered unforgettable characters, embarked on thrilling adventures, and delved deep into the complexities of the human condition. The joy lies in the ability to lose oneself in the narrative, to connect with the emotions and thoughts of the characters, and to witness the power of storytelling in shaping our understanding of the world. Drawing, on the other hand, is a form of artistic expression that allows me to communicate and connect with the world in a different way. Through the stroke of a pencil or the sweep of a brush, I can capture emotions, portray scenes, and bring my imagination to life on paper. Drawing provides a means to express my thoughts, feelings, and observations without the constraints of words.
