- A brief bio:
"I am Abdulrahman Muhammad Elewa, a junior in mechatronics at Ain Shams University, Faculty of Science, studying mechanical engineering as the main department, Class of 2027. My academic background exhibits a commitment to the understanding of integrating mechanical systems with electronics, as reflected by a strong GPA and coursework in key engineering subjects. All along in my studies, I have to strive for a balance between high academic standards with vocational exposure. I have been able to put theoretical knowledge into practice in companies I worked for as a packaging assistant and a maintenance technician, therefore developing my technical skills of machine maintenance and quality checks. On the other hand, through industrial exposure, I now realize that hands-on job exposure enhances my understanding of principles and practices in engineering. The highlight of my academic career came when my team and I, representing the project ""Rubbery Road,"" were declared first place winners in the field of mechanical design at the First Lego League Competition. This experience furthered my interest in robotics and innovative design. Moreover, opportunities like the Green Economy Exchange Forum have brought the principles of sustainability and community involvement to the forefront of my engineering priorities. As I proceed in my studies, I do look forward to contributing to projects at the Empower Hub Foundation community that seek to promulgate sustainable best practices and technological innovations. I strongly believe in collaboration and knowledge sharing leading to impactful solutions to these pressing global challenges. "
- What ignited your pursuit for SDGs especially the goals you believe in?
- Please share your biggest wins as an SDGs advocate
"As an advocate for SDGs, a number of milestones that I have reached in regard to the same are bound to reflect my commitment toward sustainability and community development: 1- SDG 13: Climate Action - Volunteer Experience at the Green Economy Exchange Forum 2023: I played a key role in making various discussions on sustainable practices. This provided a great avenue for collaboration and interaction with like-minded thinking individuals and organizations concerned with environmental awareness and action, enabling innovative ideas to be shared in collaboration. 2- SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure - First place in the First Lego League Competition. Leading my team to victory in the category of mechanical design in the project ""Rubbery Road"" showed how to apply engineering principles in solving real problems. In this project, besides showing an innovative design, the importance of sustainability in engineering solutions was emphasized. 3- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, involvement in the Tech Leaders Program: this taught me leadership to build community impacts through technology education. It finally focused on developing my commitment to empowering others and fostering sustainable practices in the use of technology. These experiences further crystallized my commitment to the SDGs through a deeper realization of the interplay between engineering and sustainability, involving the community. I will continue to inspire others, while committing myself to further contributions to the sustainable development effort."
- Outside of your SDGs advocacy work, what do you enjoy doing?
"In addition to being committed to the SDGs, I equally take part in many activities that contribute to personal development and creativity. My great curiosity in robotics and automation for example lets me come into contact with the latest technology and unique design concepts. The enthusiasm does not only expand my technical abilities but also triggers my interest for what these can potentially contribute to sustainable solutions. Supplementing the technical work, I cherish community contribution and teamwork. I would like to be part of group activities where collaboration and mutual problem-solving exist. These things deepen my perception of different perspectives and enable me to improvise my communication skills. One of the most important experiences I have ever had in my career is working as a marketing member for TEDxYouth@FayoumSTEM, an opportunity I had to engage with motivational people and contribute to educational projects. Such a mix between technical and community-oriented activities furthers both my personal and professional development and shapes me into an all-around transformer. "
