- What ignited your pursuit for SDGs especially the goals you believe in?
I have known about the SDGs for a very long time, as I was a student in primary school in Saudi Arabia I learned about their 2030 vision. That’s when I first felt “I have responsibilities towards the earth and the place I live in as well.”; However, my great passion started with the acceptance mail from CAC as I was one of the California Activity Club’s facilitators in 2021 which is a program that teaches more about the SDGs through a combination of knowledge and playful games. Thanks to this opportunity I was able to run a workshop about two goals which were goal number five gender equality and goal number eleven sustainable cities and communities. What ignited my pursuit of SDGs is the unusual behavior of the people around in my society, the simple village in the heart of the countryside, where implementing such action and deviating from the classical pattern is classified as madness; for instance, an example of this happened to me while I was arranging the library I found a file from the year 2000 for my older brother, which had an elaborate plan for how to get rid of waste without harming people or environment. I asked about the destiny of this plan to figure out that this plan didn’t have the chance to see the sunlight, as it was difficult to dispose of waste in the designated choices. Because throwing them in the streets is a habit that governs them, and burning them is a sort of relaxation. And I want to change this!
